Apple patents, iPhone displays with high refresh rate 240 Hz!

Home

Apple has registered a patent to develop an iPhone screen with a high refresh rate of 240 Hz, according to Apple Patents, a site that tracks Apple patents.

iPhone screen refresh rate 240 Hz

Apple has officially registered the idea with the US Patent and Trademark Office, which is a variable screen refresh rate of up to 240 Hz.

The screen refresh rate in the iPhone, according to the patent, will be between 60 hertz mainly and it can increase to 120, 180 or 240 Hz automatically.

It is worth noting that since 2017, Apple iPads have a technology called ProMotion that automatically changes the refresh rate of the screen up to 120 Hz.

Currently, all iPhone phones have a 60 Hz refresh rate, including the latest iPhones (iPhone 12 series).

It is expected to see an increase in the efficiency of the screen on the iPhone in terms of the refresh rate with the upcoming iPhone 13 phones at the end of this year, provided that this is accompanied by a reduction in the energy consumption of the screen or an increase in the battery capacity so that the battery life is not affected in a single charge.

Apple will do this using the new LTPO technology in screen manufacturing, as well as let the processor decide on its own when to raise the screen refresh rate and when to lower it to save the battery.

Currently all competing phones for the iPhone offer a high screen refresh rate, including the Galaxy S21 series from Samsung, Mi 11 from Xiaomi and OnePlus 8, for example, and they all work at a screen refresh rate of 120 Hz.

What is the screen refresh rate?

Screen Refresh Rate Indicates how fast the images are refreshed on the screen, and this is measured in Hz. For example, a screen with a refresh rate of 60 Hz refreshes and displays images on it at a rate of 60 times per second.

The refresh rate is higher, the smaller the delay between each update process and the next, thus giving greater smoothness to the animated content on the screen, especially games, in addition to the graphics performance in the system interface, where the user will feel more responsive to the touch of his fingers on the screen.
