Starlink is testing the provision of satellite internet to almost every corner of the earth

Some users of Starlink's satellite internet service have received a message revealing that the company is testing a new service that will provide internet access to almost everyone living on land. The service, which is owned by the aerospace company SpaceX, is called Global Roaming Service and is expected to be offered for $200 a month, in addition to the cost of the equipment, which is $599.

The service uses Starlink links between satellites, also known as space lasers. However, the company has warned users to expect high-speed, low-latency internet service, but they may face brief periods of poor connectivity or even complete loss of connectivity. Nevertheless, the situation is expected to improve significantly over time.

It is unclear how Starlink will fulfill its promise to provide internet access to every corner of the earth, as the company is still awaiting regulatory approval in different countries and is not available in some countries. However, according to PCMag, the company offers Global Roaming Service to some users outside the company's coverage areas, such as Greenland.

While Starlink already allows users to travel with internet dish connections within certain limitations, it appears that Global Roaming Service will come with fewer restrictions. For example, Starlink's current RV plan, which is available for a monthly fee of $135, allows users to equip their recreational vehicles with Starlink devices for internet connectivity while traveling, but with a higher-priced dish. This plan is only available in certain parts of the world and does not receive the same priority as it does for resident customers, resulting in slower speeds.

At the same time, the portable add-on for $25 per month, which comes on top of a monthly subscription fee of $110 for resident customers, allows users to take their dish with them if they travel within their home continent, but requires them to change their permanent address if they spend "a long period of time" away from home.

There is also the pricey maritime plan, which costs $5,000 per month for users who want to access the internet at sea.

Similar to the Starlink RV plan, users will be able to temporarily pause global roaming service at any time.

Starlink has alerted users outside the United States that they will be responsible for importing equipment, which means they will need to ensure that the equipment complies with local laws and regulations, as well as pay customs fees and import taxes.
