Google has today, Wednesday, announced the stable final release of the File Sharing feature with nearby personal computers running on the Windows operating system, after approximately four months from the launch of the trial version.
The American technology giant had launched the Nearby Share feature in 2020 as a quick and easy way to share files across nearby devices.
Google states that the Nearby Share feature, currently available on nearly 3 billion active Android devices, allows users to swiftly send and receive content through Android smartphones, tablets, and Chromebooks.
At the end of March of the past year, Google launched the trial version of the Nearby Share feature for personal computers running on Microsoft's Windows system, a long-awaited step.
In a post on its blog today, Google said, "More than 1.7 million people have installed the Nearby Share application available for download on computers worldwide."
The company added, "Given that images and videos are the most common types of files for sharing, we have witnessed over 50 million files transferred between computers and Android devices since the launch."
Google emphasizes that with the Nearby Share feature, there is no need to search for any wires, as media can be shared with your personal devices, friends, and close family with just a few clicks.
