How to perpetually activate low power mode on your iPhone

Home

If you have owned an iPhone or iPad for a considerable period and have not yet replaced the battery, you will undoubtedly find the battery health level to be considerably diminished. Consequently, you endeavor to preserve the charge for the longest possible duration, thus opting to enable low power mode throughout the day. However, as soon as the iPhone reaches more than 80% charge while connected to the charger, it automatically exits low power mode. Here, I present you with a method to maintain the low power mode on your device continuously.

Low power mode renders your device operational in a non-standard manner, occasionally impacting applications that lose certain functionalities upon activating low power mode. Therefore, if there is no pressing need to engage low power mode, it is advisable not to do so, as you acquired the iPhone to relish its swiftness and features.

The following are the features that are disabled when low power mode is enabled, according to Apple:

◉ 5G network will be restricted, excluding video streaming, on iPhone 12 models.

◉ The automatic lock time will be reduced, defaulting to 30 seconds.

◉ Screen brightness will be diminished and constrained.

◉ Screen refresh rate will be reduced, remaining limited to 60Hz on iPhone and iPad models equipped with ProMotion displays that support 120Hz.

◉ Some visual effects will be deactivated.

◉ iCloud photos will be temporarily suspended.

◉ Automatic downloads will be halted.

◉ Fetching of email will be halted.

◉ Background app updates will be suspended.

If you do not perceive any issue with forgoing the aforementioned features while low power mode is active, then follow the subsequent steps to create an automated task that activates low power mode continuously on your behalf.

If it is imperative to keep low power mode active at all times:

Most iPhone and iPad users are aware that when the battery level drops to 20%, a prompt appears indicating that low power mode will be activated. This mode helps sustain the remaining battery life by restricting certain features. However, by default, low power mode is automatically turned off when the iPhone or iPad reaches 80% charge. If this concerns you, fear not, there is always a solution.

If you have the latest version of iOS or iPadOS on an older device and find that the battery life is insufficient to last the day, or perhaps you simply wish to reduce the number of times you charge your iPhone, in both cases, you can enable low power mode regardless of the battery level through the creation of an automated shortcut to execute the necessary actions on your behalf.

Creating an automated control to permanently activate low power mode:

◉ Open the Shortcuts app on your iPhone, then click on the Automation tab at the bottom.

◉ Click on the plus (+) button at the top, then select "Create Personal Automation."

◉ Scroll down and choose "Low Power Mode."

◉ Deselect the "Is Turned On" option and select "Is Turned Off" instead, then click Next.

◉ Click "Add Action."

◉ Type "Set Low Power Mode" in the search field, then select it.

◉ Make sure to turn on the options "Turn" and "On" in blue, then click Next.

◉ Switch off the "Ask Before Running" toggle and confirm by clicking "Don't Ask" in the pop-up window.

◉ Click "Done" to finish.

Low power mode can be manually turned on and off at any time by going to Settings -> Battery and enabling or disabling Low Power Mode. However, if you wish to deactivate the automated control, you will need to disable the shortcut's automation. You can do this through the Shortcuts app by selecting the shortcut and deleting or disabling it.
