Apple reaches "proof-of-concept" stage for noninvasive blood glucose tech in future Apple Watch

Apple has made significant progress in monitoring glucose levels in the blood without the need for traditional finger-prick testing. Instead, this technology uses sensors on the Apple Watch to detect glucose levels through the skin using light or radio waves. This could make it easier and more convenient for people with diabetes to monitor their blood sugar levels throughout the day. The technology is currently in the proof-of-concept stage, indicating that it is possible to apply and use it. Prototypes may be created, but it requires significant effort to develop and miniaturize it to integrate it into the Apple Watch. The first model was the size of a table, while the current model is about the size of an iPhone. It may take some time before it becomes widely available for use, and this process could take years.

Apple seeks full supply of 3-nanometer chips for iPhone 15 Pro and M3 MacBook

Apple is reportedly seeking a full supply of 3-nanometer chips for its upcoming iPhone 15 Pro lineup as well as new MacBook devices set to launch in the latter half of this year. The report indicates that TSMC, the supplier for the 3-nanometer processors, began mass production in late December and is expected to reach monthly output of 45,000 chips by March. The 3-nanometer technology is expected to offer a 35% improvement in power efficiency compared to the 4-nanometer technology used in the A16 Bionic chip for the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max. Apple plans to launch a new MacBook Air in the latter half of this year, also equipped with 3-nanometer chips. Additionally, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo expects that the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models in 2024 will feature M3 Pro and M3 Max chips manufactured with 3-nanometer technology.

Risks that could lead to a ban on importing Apple Watch in the United States

The Biden administration has decided to uphold a ruling by the International Trade Commission that found Apple to have infringed on medical device company AliveCor's patents related to electrocardiogram (ECG) technology, which could lead to a ban on importing some models of the Apple Watch. However, Apple plans to appeal.

However, patents of AliveCor have also been invalidated by the US Patent and Trademark Office, which the company plans to appeal. There are still ongoing legal disputes between Apple and AliveCor, including an antitrust lawsuit and a patent infringement case brought by Masimo Medical Technologies.

iPhone 15 Rumored to Feature RAM Improvements, 8GB Likely for Pro Models

A new report suggests that the random access memory (RAM) in the upcoming iPhone 15 models will be upgraded, with an increase in capacity and specifications. The source expects that the iPhone 15 Pro models will feature 8 gigabytes of RAM, up from 6 gigabytes in the iPhone 14 Pro.

It is expected that the standard iPhone 15 models will remain at 6 gigabytes, but they will be upgraded to faster LPDDR5 RAM. The improved RAM will work to improve multitasking, in addition to the rumored A17 Bionic chip that is said to enhance the performance of the iPhone 15 Pro models.

Researchers delve into major security vulnerabilities fixed in iOS 16.3 and macOS 13.2

With each update to iOS and macOS, Apple provides numerous security enhancements to address weaknesses. Two security flaws identified by Trellix Advanced Research Center have been addressed in the iOS 16.3 and macOS Ventura 13.2 releases.

These vulnerabilities relate to a new class of privilege escalation bugs in iOS and macOS that can be exploited to access user messages, location data, photos, call logs, and more.

Trellix discovered the first security flaw in the Coreduetd process, which could give attackers access to a person's calendar, address book, and photos. The second flaw relates to OSLogService and NSPredicate, which can be exploited to achieve code execution within Springboard.

The data relating to these security vulnerabilities was reported to Apple, and the company immediately addressed the vulnerabilities in the aforementioned updates, which were reflected in the security support documents for both. Trellix credits Apple for its swift resolution of the issues and identifies two of the weaknesses (CVE-2023-23530 and CVE-2023-23531) that Apple addressed by enhancing memory handling.
