Apple releases security updates for iOS and macOS to address an actively exploited security vulnerability

Apple has issued rapid security response updates for iPhone and iPad users with iOS and iPadOS 16.5.1, along with the macOS Ventura 13.4.1 update. These updates aim to provide security fixes without the need for a complete software update. Users are encouraged to update their devices as soon as possible.

The installation process is swift, taking only a few minutes to download the update and restart the device. After installing the rapid security response update, users will see an updated version of the software. Clicking on the current version in the "About" section of "Settings" will display information about the installed operating system version and the rapid security response update. It is also possible to disable rapid security response updates on both iPhone and Mac devices.

Apple Vision Pro will come with faster DRAM chips

According to The Korea Herald, Apple's Vision Pro glasses will utilize a custom type of Dynamic Random-Access Memory (DRAM) to support the R1 input processing chip.

The Apple glasses consist of two main chips: the M2 processor responsible for content processing and running the VisionOS operating system, and the R1 chip that processes data from 12 cameras, five sensors, and six microphones. The R1 chip works to stream images rapidly to the displays, providing virtually lag-free vision.

To meet the high-speed requirements of the R1 chip, Apple is reportedly integrating a low-transmission time 1-gigabit DRAM chip from SK hynix. The DRAM chip will utilize a packaging method called Fan-Out Level Packaging, allowing for a doubling of processing speed when integrated with the R1 chip set. Apple Vision Pro glasses are expected to be available for purchase early next year, with initial assembly being carried out by the Chinese manufacturer Luxshare. However, manufacturing issues with Micro-OLED screens and curved lenses may limit production to less than 400,000 units in 2024, according to reports.

Apple announces Q3 2023 earnings on August 3

Apple has announced that it will unveil its financial results for the third quarter of the fiscal year 2023 on Thursday, August 3. During the conference call, Tim Cook and CFO Luca Maestri will discuss the results with analysts.

In this quarter, which ran from April 2 to July 1, Apple introduced three new models of Mac devices: the 15-inch MacBook Air, the updated Mac Studio, and the updated MacBook Pro. Additionally, the company launched the Apple Card savings account exclusively in the United States.

Although Apple has not provided specific revenue guidance since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, analysts expect average revenues of approximately $81.5 billion for this quarter. This estimate indicates a decrease of about 2% compared to the $83 billion in revenue recorded in the same quarter of the previous year.

In the recent earnings call, CFO Luca Maestri commented on Apple's performance for the current quarter, stating that assuming overall economic expectations remain stable, they anticipate revenues for the June quarter to be similar to those of the March quarter.

Apple is working on extending battery life and introducing collision detection in two new advertisements for iPhone 14

Apple has shared two new advertisements on its YouTube channel, one promoting the long battery life of the iPhone 14 Plus and the other highlighting the collision detection feature of the iPhone 14 Pro.

The first one-minute ad, titled "Battery for Miles," depicts a man driving a tractor slowly, pulling a giant honeydew melon along a long road. In front of the driver is the iPhone 14 Plus, displaying Apple Maps, which tells him, "102 miles ahead, keep going straight." After briefly raising his eyebrow, the slogan appears: "Our longest battery life ever. Relax, it's iPhone 14 Plus."

In the second ad, titled "Crash Test," a slow-motion car crash test is conducted in an aircraft hangar.

The iPhone 14 Pro is mounted on the dashboard with a screen that reads, "Looks like you've had a collision." The following slogan is then displayed: "Collision detection can sense a severe car crash and automatically call 911. Relax, it's iPhone 14 Pro."

At this time, those interested in purchasing a new iPhone should await the iPhone 15 series to take advantage of new features and technologies, including Dynamic Island for all models, USB-C instead of Lightning, periscope lens, and more.

The iMac device boasts a sizable 32-inch display

Apple is currently conducting experiments on larger-sized iMac devices, with one of them expected to feature a screen size of approximately 32 inches. However, they are still in the early stages of development, and it is anticipated that it won't be released until late 2024 or possibly sometime in 2025.

Previously, reports indicated that Apple was working on an iMac with a screen size surpassing 30 inches. They now confirm that the screen size will be similar to that of the Apple Pro Display XDR, which measures 32 inches and was launched in December 2019 with a 6K Retina quality and a starting price of $4,999.

Currently, the only available computer from Apple is the 24-inch iMac, which was released in April 2021 with the M1 chip. It is expected that an updated model with a faster M3 chip will be launched in early next year. The M3 chip is expected to come with a 3-nanometer manufacturing process, resulting in significant performance improvements and enhanced energy efficiency compared to the current models, which are manufactured using 5-nanometer technology.

The iPhone 15 Pro is expected to come in a blue color.

According to a reliable source, the upcoming iPhone 15 Pro models will come in a unique deep blue color with a grayish gradient. The color is similar to the blue used in the iPhone 12 Pro models, but it appears darker and more subdued. While rumors about a dark red color circulated, the blue color was spotted on early prototype devices of the iPhone 15 Pro, indicating that it might be the final color option. Other rumored colors include light pink, light blue, and green.

The secondary headband design for the Apple glasses is still unfinished

Members of the press who tested the Apple glasses were able to use an optional headband for added comfort and security. This headband was not mentioned in Apple's marketing materials but was showcased in promotional videos. The addition of the secondary headband was intended to address difficulties faced by individuals with smaller heads when wearing the glasses for extended periods. However, the headband design is still under development. Apple is also considering shoulder-carrying cases for the glasses' battery, as some customers may not have pockets. Additionally, Apple plans to collaborate with external sources to create external screen protectors, and it has designed system alerts that recommend avoiding wearing the glasses while walking or running.

Twitter accuses Meta of employee theft to build Thread

Twitter has accused Meta of unlawfully using Twitter's trade secrets and intellectual property. Twitter alleges that Meta hired former Twitter employees who had access to confidential information and used it to rapidly develop the Thread application. Twitter demands that Meta cease using its trade secrets and warns of potential legal action. While Twitter has not targeted other similar social networks such as Bluesky and Mastodon, Thread's popularity due to its association with Instagram suggests it may be the final color option. Meta denies having any former Twitter employees on the Thread team.

The latest beta release of iOS 17 includes a "Save as Image" option for full-page screenshots and improved dual SIM support

Apple has introduced a new feature in the latest iOS 17 releases for the general public and developers, as well as in iPadOS 17 and macOS Sonoma. This feature allows users to save full-page screenshots as image files within supported applications. It provides additional flexibility, as users can now choose to save their screenshots directly in their Photos app. Previously, in the iOS 16 update, users had the option to save a full page or capture content as a PDF document in applications such as Safari, Notes, and Maps.

This feature has been present on Android devices for some time, and iPhone users had to rely on third-party applications like Tailor to achieve the same functionality.

In addition, TechCrunch discovered another noteworthy addition in the iOS 17 update. Users will benefit from improved dual SIM card support, including the ability to sort messages based on the SIM card, assign separate ringtones for each card, and choose a SIM card when returning a call from an unknown number.
